Authors:

Supriyati and Indah Hapsari

Abstract: Tax avoidance is one of the company's taxation strategies to reduce a company's tax burden. In order to realize tax avoidance efforts without incurring tax risks and sanctions, the role of the board of commissioners is important in tax avoidance efforts. The board of commissioners have to ensure the business strategy, management, potential risk in every decision made and ensure that the company's activities comply with applicable legal regulations. The board of commissioners is expected to be able to supervise and control tax policy. The board of commissioners must be able to carry out its supervisory function appropriately, independently and transparently in order to optimize financial performance and company sustainability. Research conducted on 156 samples of banking company data in Indonesia for the 2015-2019 period using regression testing has proven that only the variable number of independent commissioners has a significant effect on tax avoidance efforts. As for the variable of gender, tenure and political connections of the board of commissioners have no significant effect on tax avoidance efforts. The number of independent commissioners is the main factor affecting tax avoidance efforts. This is in line with the regulations of the Financial Services Authority and the Limited Liability Company Law.

Morocco's Trade, between Free Trade Agreements and Integration into the African Union: Which Potential for Morocco's Foreign Trade?

Authors:

Oumaima Saadallah and Benaceur Outtaj

Abstract: In a context characterized by a remarkable consolidation of Morocco's efforts to effectively integrate the globalization process, represented mainly by the signing of free trade agreements and the orientation towards intra-regional trade with the African continent, this work aims at analyzing the trade flows of Morocco and its two main trading partners; those of the African continent and those with which it has signed free trade agreements, over the period 2000-2018. For this purpose, we use an augmented gravity model to estimate trade between Morocco and these two groups of partner countries, and then simulate and calculate the trade potential between Morocco and these countries. The results we generated demonstrate the existence of a trade potential not yet exploited by Morocco in the two cases studied. The effective exploitation of the latter would allow the Kingdom to boost its trade.

FinTech and Commercial Banks' Performance in China: The Current Status and Lessons Learned from Our Data Analysis

Authors:

Xihui Chen, Xuyuan You and Victor Chang

Abstract: As the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic play out globally, the banking industry has been affected in both positive and negative ways, with the crisis creating both opportunities and threats for the collaborations between FinTech and banks. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of FinTech products (FTPs) on commercial bank’s performance in China. Required data are collected with a quantitative approach and two self-designed questionnaires were distributed to customers and employees of commercial banks in China. The gathered data were examined using the structural equation modeling technique. The results of this study reveal that the perceived usefulness (PU) of FTPs has positive and significant impacts on customer satisfaction, low expectation of bank employee assistance, bank’s service quality and employee work efficiency. Additionally, the perceived difficulty of use (PD) of FTPs has negative and significant impacts on customer satisfaction and low expectation of assistance. Interestingly, there is a positive and significant relationship between PD and banks' service quality and work efficiency, meaning that the service quality and work efficiency can reduce some shortcomings of using FTPs. This study recognizes the need to enhance the understanding of FTPs on non-financial firm performance.

Youth: Possible Segment of the Movement for Sustainability in Tourism

Authors:

Cosmin N. Mirea, Alexandra M. Sârbu and Puiu Nistoreanu

Abstract: Young people are dynamic, energetic, eager to socialize and to have fun. Based on these considerations, young people are an important segment of the tourism sector. At the same time, these characteristics can lead to the practice of unsustainable forms of tourism. The present study aims to highlight whether young people are prone to sustainable tourism or are in the sphere of influence of overtourism. The study is based on a questionnaire with 20 questions and a statistical analysis based on calculating the correlation ratio (R - Multiple R) and the coefficient of determination (R2 - R square) between certain dependent variables (tourist variables) and certain independent variables (socio-economic variables) but also performing a simple regression. The results indicate that young people are not necessarily followers of sustainable tourism and that the age is not a variable with a large influence on young people’s tourism preferences.

Authors:

Irina Arhipova, Gundars Berzins, Aldis Erglis, Evija Ansonska and Juris Binde

Abstract: Compared to the spring, when the Covid-19 pandemic started and people honestly followed the precautionary measures, the behavior of the Latvian population has changed significantly. The majority of Latvians do not exercise caution, and their activity has returned to pre-Covid-19 levels this autumn, negatively affecting the epidemiological situation in the country, according to an analysis of population behavior. Within the research, the epidemiological statistics of Center for Disease Prevention and Control and Latvian Mobile Telephone (LMT) mobile network events were analyzed to determine the relationship between population activity and epidemiological situation in Latvia as a whole, as well as in each region. According to the performed analysis, it is possible to divide Latvia into two parts - municipalities that were active during the emergency situation and places where the greatest activity is observed before and after the emergency situation. It was concluded that mobile call activity during emergencies in both cities and counties is still high, it is 70% - 80% of the precrisis period. Since the spring, people's behavior and habits have changed significantly, so a different approach is needed.

The Influence of Context on Value Proposition Co-creation of Online Shopping Platform in China

Authors:

Fan Yuan, Yufang Jin and Dahai Dong

Abstract: Service-Dominant (S-D) logic emphasizes contextual conceptualization of value, while relatively little attention has been paid on context within value proposition co-creation research. This paper contributes to value proposition (VP) co-creation within S-D logic by providing the empirical evidence of how context, defined as stakeholders with unique reciprocal links among them, influencing this process of the online shopping platform. Synthesizing S-D logic and social network theory, the VP co-creation is conceptualized as an operant resource integration process that is influenced by the tie strength among the consumer and three core stakeholder groups, namely core service providers, supporting service providers and other consumers, of the platform. Data collected from 380 consumers of major online shopping platforms in China provide support for the study and demonstrate the influence on VP co-creation brought by stakeholder context is mediated by quality of shared information and trust among stakeholders.

Innovation as Argumentation in Closed and Technology-mediated Open Models

Authors:

Emmanuel D. Adamides, Nikos I. Karacapilidis and Konstantinos Konstantinopoulos

Abstract: The paper uses activity theory and Activity Based Analysis (ABA) for understanding the contradictions developing, and the corresponding remedial actions required, in the transition of an organization from the closed to the technology-mediated open mode of innovation production. We use activity theory to develop nested representations of the innovation process in both business models, and concentrate on the argumentation-in-innovation activity and its context. We demonstrate the application of ABA in the analysis of contradictions developing in the argumentation processes of a firm in the food and beverages sector adopting open innovation strategies implemented in the innovation community mode.

Authors:

Edward Q. Rengifo, Libia R. Rojas and Myrian D. Rueda

Abstract: Studies on planned behavior and its relationship with consumer practices showing the influence of attitudes, control of perceived behavior, and subjective norm on purchase intention and behavior. Thus, the present research aims to establish the relationship between attitudes, subjective norms and behavior control, compared to the intention of the student to enroll in Public Accounting programs in the Distance modality in Colombia. A correlational study has been carried out, with probability sampling, applying a structured survey with 78 items to 748 students. The results show that there is a relationship between attitudes and subjective norms, and the desire to enroll in Public Accounting programs in the Distance modality in Colombia at 24.2%. The present investigation shows that intention is not a predictor variable; therefore, desire is included in the planned behavior model by identifying that there is a linear equation that predicts desire to enroll.
